Brightwaters - The name "Brightwaters" was derived from the Indian name "Wohseepee" which means the place of bright waters, and it was so called because of the chain of lakes, all spring-fed and offering clear, cold water, which the local tribes used for drinking and cooking.
Islip - Located along the picturesque Great South Bay, Islip has a long history associated with fishing, clamming (the world-famous Doxsee Clam Company started in Islip), swimming and boating.
Brentwood - a beautiful hamlet located in Suffolk County. This quaint community offers plenty for visitors to explore such as the Caumsett State Historic Park or one of many popular restaurants. Bay Shore - became renowned in the late 19th century for its shopping district and resorts. It was a convenient and appealing location along the bay with access to Fire Island.
Melville - In the 17th century it was known as Samuel Ketcham's Valley, named for a local resident. Afterwards it was known as Sweet Hollow. This name was replaced by Melville in school records in 1854. Melville is home to the U.S. headquarters of several national and international corporations, including Canon USA.
Babylon - today is part suburban bedroom community, part small-town, and has a substantial shopping and business district. Today the village is best known for its restaurants and shops, and hosts shopping events during the fall as well as a popular crafts fair.
Old Bethpage - is home to the Old Bethpage Village Restoration. Opened in 1963 on a former Powell family farm, the restoration is an authentic recreation of a mid-19th century Long Island village.
Farmingdale - Charles Murphy's famous Mile-A-Minute bicycle ride - a publicity stunt in which Murphy tried to keep up with a Long Island Rail Road train and wound up setting a bicycle speed record - took place in Farmingdale.
